The houses in Pitman’s grove neighborhood were built in the late 1880’s as part of a Methodist summer camp!

It’s #oceancitynj takeover time at @housesofpitman! It’s a #newjersey tradition to spend a week or two #downthashore & Ocean City, Nj has a ton of beautiful, historic houses. Sadly though, there are less and less of the #midcentury homes that used to dominate this barrier island every year. Historic homes in Ocean City and other New Jersey shore towns are increasingly threatened by flooding due to #climatechange and #sealevelrise, and it just doesn’t make financial sense to raise a mid century home 6-9 feet, when it could be demolished and a newer home with more sqftage can be built in its place. The dreamy mid century colors and lines that characterize the shore towns of our childhoods are being lost, one by one, to the strength of the rising seas. In fact, NJ shore towns are some of the most climate threatened places in the world. Soon it may not make financial sense to continue to save homes in our shore towns at all. If you love #theshore the way @housesofpitman does, we urge you to get active to help mitigate the effects of climate change, before this beautiful #wayoflife is #extinct. . . . This #cedar sided mid century beauty is an over 2,000 sqft duplex with two units and an outdoor shower. It’s located all the way at the #dreamy south end of the island, blocks from #corsonsinlet and a nature preserve that protects #ospreys. It was built in 1965 and has a #bradybunch quality that we ❤️

This #cozy #cottage #colonialhouse was built in 1900. The interesting #aframe entryways, front and back additions seem to be added in the mid #1970s. The front triangle seems to be used as a #greenhouse, and a creative way to let light in🌞 . . . This #adorablehome has a truly unique style!

#pointsfororiginality I have always loved this #spanishstyle ranch that stands out proudly from its traditional #colonial neighbors. Built in 1923, this house with its #missionstyle ceramic roof tiles, turrets, and concrete/ stucco facade is truly #oneofakind

🌷🌷🌷This lovely lavender #dutchcolonial with #edwardian details was built in 1904 and sits proudly in the center of #pitman . I ❤️❤️❤️ the quirky details and #boldyetsubtle color choice!

#goldenhour with this row of #midcentury cape cods with distinctive #aframe entryways. I’m guessing these were built in the late 1940’s- early 1950’s. What do you think? Also #shoutout to the owners who I met while shooting their beautiful home. 👋 hi neighbors!

Look at this super cute little mint colonial, right off Pitman’s main drag, Broadway ❤️

This adorable Dutch colonial is on one of Pitman’s main drags, West Holly Ave. The original part of the house was built in the 1890’s, and the back addition was added in the 1930’s. Once a dentist’s office, this home has been reclaimed by a new owner, who has been working for the past year to restore it to its former glory. Not pictured: in the back yard there is an enormous Japanese maple tree, one of the oldest and largest a qualified arborist has ever seen.
